SexyBack: The Office Version

In honor of the long-awaited return and season 4 premiere of the hit comedy The Office, I found a video that is simply hilarious. It is a collection of scenes from the first 3 seasons of The Office set to Justin Timberlake's hit "SexyBack". It's entitled "Michael and Dwight: SexyBack" but features all the characters from The Office. The lyrics match up flawlessly with the hilarious scenes of the show. If you are a fan of the show or the song, you are definitely going to want to see this. And The Office: Season 4 Premiere will be on NBC tonight at 9/8c!

Here's a couple of my favs in R&B with their latest music videos and singles. The third single off of Ne-Yo's no. 1 sophomore album Because Of You is entitled "Can We Chill" and it is probably my favorite track off the CD. It's too hard to call though with so many quality tracks on the CD. Finally, my boy Trey Songz has released the video for "Can't Help But Wait", which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #108 - bubbling under the radar songs. (DL the track by searching the archives or clicking on the Trey Songz label!). It is the 2nd single off of Trey Day - Trey Songz' sophomore album due out October 2nd! I myself "Can't Help But Wait" hahaha... lame, I know. Both videos are worth the time as both are pretty cool so watch and enjoy!

The British pop group Duran Duran has an upcoming album entitled Red Carpet Massacre due out November 13th and has been in the studio heavily with undoubtedly the biggest chart-toppers in the last year plus - Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, and Danja. Here we got 3 of their tracks off their upcoming album, featuring vocals and production from all 3. The first single is entitled "Falling Down" and should be officially released Tuesday, September 25th. You may already have "Nite Runner", but this version is finally the CDQ version of the song, and is my personal favorite of the 3. DL below & enjoy! Ahh, in arch. history lecture right now... updating the blog! Anyway, you might be tired of Kanye videos by now, but these 2 are especially cool. The first one is a LIVE performance of "Stronger" (now the #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100!) with Justin Timberlake as the hypeman. Kanye also spits a sick freestyle after the song, so be sure to watch the vid all the way through. The second vid is a special look inside the studio with Kanye West and Timbaland for the making of "Stronger". Timbaland reworked the drums on "Stronger" and "Good Life" last minute for Graduation. Timbaland's slight 'kick' enhances the song as you can tell in the video with the final product being illustrated with a snippet of a Kanye LIVE performance at the end of the video. Enjoy!

Graduation finished up the week selling 957,000 copies compared to Curtis at 691,000. JYEA! You can read the full Billboard article HERE, which also has some interesting, comparative facts about the final numbers and numbers throughout the SoundScan history since 1991. Congratulations Kanye West for having the no. 1 album in the country! (And if you're not one of the 957,000, go out and buy a copy - the album is reeeaaal good - you won't be dissapointed!)

Chamillionaire provides another reason to hit up the retailers this week with his new release Ultimate Victory. Chamillionaire is another rapper that represents true hip-hop. In fact, he does not swear throughout this album; there's no explicit version because it's all clean. He gets all his points across through clever dialogue, metaphors, catchy hooks, and punchlines all over some real quality production. Below, you can DL 2 non-single examples of the above. The latter "Industry Groupie" has a great pump-up beat sampled from Europe "The Final Countdown" (You'll know what song that is when you hear it - it's always played at sporting events). These are just 2 of the standout tracks on Ultimate Victory. Yet another Kanye video, yet another interesting interview.. this time w/ Ellen on her talk show about the early sucess of Graduation, the beef with MTV, and Britney Spears. Kanye is not his outspoken and controversal self, rather he is calm and articulate in explaining his beef with MTV. The first video is the interview and the one below is the unintentionally funny performance of "Stronger" also on Ellen. It's just hilarious that 'Ye got that audience to stand up and get their hands up, all of whom look ridiculous (including Ellen herself), especially in the Stronger shades. Hahahaha, enjoy!

It's a sweet skit before Kanye and Rainn present an award at the Emmys last night. All 3 are hilarious in it, so enjoy!

Wow, I can't believe we've been up and running this long without a single J. Legend post, haha! Well, the weekend in music is a little slow and I'm sure ya'll are jammin' to Kanye anyway so I'd figure I'd hit ya with some JOHN LEGEND! There has not been many new JL songs to surface, none in fact, since the beginning of the year. I read that he has an untitled 3rd album on the horizon for 2007, but I highly doubt we'll see that out this year. Other than that, he has background vocals on "Good Life" & "The Glory" off of Kanye's Graduation. Anyway, here is the last song he was featured on - an interesting, yet pleasant collaboration with Rich Boy. The Polow Da Don (check out his production credits here) beat is a dark thumper that Rich Boy rhymes over nicely and JL amazingly sings over on the chorus. Below that, I put out a couple old videos. One is his special remix (just him and a piano) to "Selfish" - a 2004 song that features him and Kanye w/ Slum Village that you can DL here if you don't have it already (sry no divShare preview, didn't come up w/ one for some reason). Finally, in the fall of 2006, John Legend performed in the legendary (no pun intended) Royal Albert Hall in London that I watched at the time live on msn.com. LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Kanye West looks set to win the closely watched duel with rival rapper 50 Cent for the No. 1 slot on next week's U.S. pop album chart, according to preliminary sales data issued Wednesday.

West's "Graduation" sold an estimated 437,000 copies during its first day of release Tuesday, ahead of 310,000 for 50 Cent's "Curtis" and 107,000 for country star Kenny Chesney's "Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates," according to a new "Building Chart" devised by tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan.

The Building Chart gives an early look at how the race is shaping up for SoundScan's final charts, which post projected national sales each Wednesday morning, extrapolated from a panel of merchants representing more than 90% of the U.S. music market.

Some pundits project West will surpass 750,000 copies for the week, breaking the 2007 record of 623,000 copies held by rock band Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight." But West did better with his last album, 2005's "Late Registration," which debuted with 860,000 copies. 50 Cent also will fall far short of the 1.1 million start for his last album, 2005's "The Massacre."

Here's a couple new tracks for ya guys. I was hoping the collaboration with T.I. & Ciara would make T.I.'s latest album T.I. vs. T.I.P. but it did not make the cut. However, the unreleased track recently became released and it's definitely a nice track w/ Ciara's vocals and T.I.'s laid back flow. And for those who know me, you know I'm a big Montell Jordan fan! This Is How We Do It! Anyway, a new track by Montell recently came out and it's a typical, slower R&B song. The lyrics, beat, and voice are all excellent. There's hardly any information about Montell's future plans other than this track and that his next album may be called Pressure with no set release date. So DL below and enjoy! Remember when Kanye West interrupted an acceptance speech for Best Video at the MTV Europe Music Awards to declare how he should have been the winner instead? That victorious video belonged to French electro-house duo Justice who, at the time, had not yet released a full-length album. It’s less than one year later and Justice have conceded to the early hype releasing their debut † (pronounced ‘Cross’), a twelve-track album overrun with biblical imagery and a grandiose, well-sequenced mix of dance-distorted rock, funk, and pop to match.

From cover art and track titles to production style † is thematically consistent. Rolling timpani’s create orchestral havoc when they compete with a nasty bass line on the epic opener “Genesis.” The track then ascends into the funky outerspace of “Let There Be Light” and is followed by obvious—but lovable—first single, the disco throwback “D.A.N.C.E.” What is also great about †—and adds to the biblical allegory—is the way that Justice incorporate a rock influence on what is essentially a dance album (hear: “Waters of Nazareth”). If comparisons are necessary, this means that Justice sound like a mash-up of their Vice Records labelmates Death From Above1979 and fellow Parisian dancefloor legends Daft Punk.

With †, Justice bring together twelve very varied tracks from the deafening, insistency of “Stress”—that may be lost on some but works with the ambitious theme of the album as an entirety—to Uffie’s cutesy, party-rap on aptly-titled, “The Party.” It may be partly due to the way that the French house genre has embraced experimentation or perhaps the mainstream acceptance of Daft Punk, but Justice will also do well based on the innovative way in which they conceptualize and make their music—it’s not only Kanye West who is so bold.

In an exclusive interview with XXLMag.com, A Tribe Called Quest frontman, Q-Tip, reveals he’s forming a new group with Common entitled The Standard. “Me and Common getting ready to form a group,” ‘Tip tells XXLMag.com. “We’ll probably run it through the Uni joint because we’re both on Universal.” According to The Abstract, it was Common who suggested the two from a group. “It was more of his suggestion,” he says. “He was like, “We just need to do a record.” So I’m really excited about that.” While the two haven’t started recording together yet, The Standard will start churning out material once the two starting touring together in a few weeks. As far as the production on the album, though, fans can expect Q-Tip to handle the majority. “I’m probably gonna do a lot of it,” ‘Tip says. “And we’ll get Kanye on a couple things, but you know, that cat is busy.”

K-Os Biography:
Raised by Jehovah's Witness parents in locales as disparate as Toronto and Trinidad, it was no surprise that Kheaven Brereton, aka k-os (pronounced: chaos) was a bit different than your average MC. A singer as well as a rhymer, and a producer to boot, k-os proved on his debut album, Exit (Astralwerks, 2002), that being preachy didn't have to mean being boring. The LP stood out dramatically with lush, instrument-driven arrangements to go with the traditional hip-hop elements of drum programming, samples, and the like. Acoustic guitar and piano marked the single "Heaven Only Knows"; dub and reggae influences tinged "Freeze." Many of the tracks found the rapper singing, so much so that an argument could be raised about the genre to which k-os in fact belonged. And that was just the way he liked it. A tour to support Exit stretched from late 2002 through summer 2003; the dates saw k-os performing with such hip-hop luminaries as India.Arie and Floetry. Exit went on to pick up International Album of the Year at the 2003 Source Awards. K-os returned in September 2004 with the equally ambitious Joyful Rebellion, a record whose sales hit almost double-platinum levels. After writing and performing a song, "Burning to Shine," with the CBC Orchestra (a process that was documented on the network) in 2005, k-os released Atlantis: Hymns for Disco the following year.

Another track off Graduation leaked today.. this is the much anticipated collaboration of Kanye & Chris Martin from Coldplay entitled "Homecoming". The first thing I noticed is Kanye used some exact lines from "Home" f/ John Legend - a 2003 track off the mixtape Get Well Soon... and after listening to both again, the latter half of 'Ye's first verse on "Home" (~ 1:45) is the exact same in the latter half of the 2nd verse in "Homecoming" (~ 1:55). Would Kanye really recycle lyrics for his upcoming album or is this just the 2007, updated version of "Home"? This leads for some speculation, but I think this has got to be the final version of the song because the album has to be finished at least 3-4 weeks before it hits stores so that it can get manufactured and distributed. Maybe Kanye is just stressing the message he was trying to convey in "Home" by reusing some of the same lyrics on "Homecoming" and since "Homecoming" is on Graduation, more people will be listening. Also, I'm fairly sure that "Home" was recorded before the car accident that almost killed Kanye and post-accident Kanye's voice does have a distinct difference. Both versions have their similarities and differences and I like both of them. You can listen to the differences yourself as both tracks are below and ready to be downloaded. And if your one of the many people becoming swept up in the 50/Kanye rivalry that will culminate the week of September 11, it may shock you that they were on the same stage and performed in New York just last night! As weird as that may sound, 50, Kanye, Jay-Z, Diddy, & Swizz Beatz helped make hip-hop history Wednesday night as they joined Screamfest Tour headliners T.I. & Ciara on stage, pleasantly surprising the 20,000+ Madison Square Garden attendees. Ciara and T.I. switched off sets and performed their collaborations with their respective features (Ciara & 50 for "Can't Leave 'Em Alone" and T.I. & Jay for "Watch What You Say To Me") and more and more of the superstar guests came out to perform their own hits and ending with T.I. closing his show with "What You Know" and "Big Things Poppin' (Do It)". Literally all the above guests were on the stage at the same time w/ 50 and Kanye pounding fists along with the others. Simply an awesome sounding event that I definitely wish I was at. As we know Mos Def has been outta the spotlight for quite a while (not talking Movies here yo). Yeah I know he dropped "Tru Magic" this past year, but we all know how that went down. So anyway as a huge fan of his I've been lookin' for Mos to make some big moves as an MC (shit he's the reason why I began to listen to hip-hop.). I guess apparently there's just some shit we just dont really know too much about, like the problems with Geffen, the divorce, and other bullshit.

So anyway I've noticed that the track listing for Ye's "Graduation", has Mos appearing on two tracks "Drunk & Hot Girls" (thats dope) & "Good Night". To me its not necessarily a huge surprise, but its great to see him appearing on one of this years most highly anticipated albums. As matter of fact that shit means a lot me. I just hope this continues to be a pattern for Mos, but not just with Kanye but on his own too, you know maybe getting around letting us know more about himself and his travels as the MC, not just the actor.

And I say all this because we got Kweli doing his thing with Blacksmith, Com and the recent mainstream success he's been having, 1st 15th for Lupe, The Roots moving to Def Jam, plus they got ?uestlove allover the place, and finally Ye... well shit he's Ye.

I dont know it just feels as though he's missing, and sometimes I just cant help but wonder about it.

During the VMA announcement Tuesday, West made 50's prediction come true, declining the proposed debate and calling it "the stupidest thing." "What am I going to debate about?" he said. "I'm going to go in the studio and make music." But 'Ye, who said he doesn't have beef with anyone, had something positive to say as well: "With 50's album dropping and my album dropping on the same day, everybody wins because you get a lot of good music at the same time."

I stumbled upon this interview with one of G.O.O.D. Music's underlooked artists - Consequence. It's a very interesting read as 'Quence discusses everything from music to fashion. Here are some excerpts...

When asked about his relationship with Kanye came about...

"Two things...The reason I’m in the game period is because of A Tribe Called Quest. When I met Kanye, he knew me as being Consequence from A Tribe Called Quest. You know, me and Kanye have been working together before he had a deal as a solo artist, when he was producer for Roc-a-Fella..." - 'Quence goes in much further detail with this interesting story..

When asked whether or not hip-hop is dead...

"How can it be dead when Don’t Quit Your Day Job is out? I’m not even saying that to be funny. But for real, for real, I mean I respect the question that he [Nas] raised and I’m not mad at it. It does get to a point where you have to call people out like -- the original form of Hip-Hop…is anybody else still doing it? But I don’t think that snap music kills Hip-Hop because that’s like saying stage music killed Hip-Hop."

And a brief mention about the next album...

"I’m working on the next album already. It’s called You Win Some, You Lose Some. It’s gonna be crazy -- a continuation to Don’t Quit Your Day Job. So now that people know I got another album on the way. They can actually buy it when it comes out instead of three months later."

Filmed on a rooftop in BKlyn the day of The People video shoot, he gives a bunch of Charlie Murphy-style Common "true hollywood" stories...including the detailed story behind his MC battle vs. Kanye back in the day (the sh*t is funny) and how Pops used in your face "persuasion" to get his son up off Relativity...he basically talks about things you don't normally hear in a Common interview.

the creator of the blog and my close friend Go has been MIA for quite awhile now and it is unlike him to be this inactive online. For those who are unaware, he is currently in Japan which recently got struck by an earthquake on July 16th, which happens to be Go's last known activity... I'm confident he is alrite and understandably without access to a computer, but of course there is no way in knowing for sure for all his close friends out here in the U.S.. Finding Forever Track List

"The People"
Set to be Finding Forever's first single, "The People" begins with a chopped interplay between the sampled "Louder!" and "Yeah!" from Mountain's ultimate breakbeat jam "Long Red." Not long ago "Long Red" was sampled by J Dilla for De La Soul's "Verbal Clap" on The Grind Date. West said that during a meeting with Steven Spielberg. the director told him that he made the film AI in the way he imagined Stanley Kubrick would have told the story. West revealed that this inspired him to produce all his tracks on Finding Forever in the same way the recently departed Dilla would have, in tribute to him.

"Black Maybe"
Another Kanye West production, the title of this song was taken from a song by Stevie Wonder and Syretta Wright and is about the problems that come once you've grown out of the circumstances you were born into. Repeat Common collaborator Bilal provided the vocals on the hook, furthering the album's reference point of classic soul.

"I Want You"
A track of electro love soul with sonic nods to Busta Rhymes' "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" and Audio Two's "Top Billin.'" "I write love songs, point blank and I ain't ashamed of it," said Common. Will.i.am whipped up the beat when he and Common were working on that song from the Gap commercial.

"Southside"
A shorter version of this song was released earlier this year when the Bears were in the Super Bowl. Hardly any attention is paid to hooks or catchiness, it's just bullet-spray lyrics from West and Common, who in the space of a couple lines compares himself to both James Baldwin and Kool G Rap.

"Driving Me Wild"
Featuring Lily Allen and produced by Kanye West. Our notes say something about it being "unhinged." We're not really sure what we meant.

"So Far To Go"
This one was produced by J Dilla and features D'Angelo. You should have heard it already when it was released on Dilla's posthumous album The Shining. You'd be surprised how many people at the listening session seemingly hadn't.

"Break My Heart"
Common had only recorded one verse for this storytelling piece that tracks a relationship from the initial flirtations to its end. "Breaking a girl's heart," said Common," sometimes it happens."

"The Game"
The use of Ahmad Jamal's "Swahililand" (as heard on De La Soul's "Stakes Is High") is an obvious nod to Dilla by West, but "The Game" also incorporates ’90s boom-bap hip-hop. The duo even brought in DJ Premier to scratch a chorus out of lines from OC's "Half Good, Half Sinner" : It's only right that I address this/ You gotta be in it to win it.

"Start The Show"
Slated as the album opener, the beat for "Start The Show" is much more dominating than most Common tracks, though West was sure to add some sparkle as it progresses. "Start The Show" features one of Common's patented putdowns of other rappers: "You was better as a drug dealer."

"Misunderstood"
Produced by Devo Springsteen, West's cousin and collaborator, the song is introduced by a verse and chorus from a live Nina Simone performance of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." A cast of characters that commonly appear in Common songs find their way into the lyrics: the college girl gone wrong, the smart kid stuck on the corner, etc.

"Forever Begins"
This is going to be the last song on our album and was probably our favorite, from it's military drums to afro-soul instrumental outro. Once it was over Common kept up his tradition and asked everyone in the room what they thought the best two tracks were. The most popular picks were "The People," "The Game," "Southside," and "Forever Begins." Common said his favorites were ""The People" and "Drivin Me Wild." West abstained.
