start the show

The bonus DVD w/the exclusive album @ Target includes a 30min interview which in my opinion, is the best on-camera interview he has ever done. Filmed on a rooftop in BKlyn the day of The People video shoot, he gives a bunch of Charlie Murphy-style Common "true hollywood" stories...including the detailed story behind his MC battle vs. Kanye back in the day (the sh*t is funny) and how Pops used in your face "persuasion" to get his son up off Relativity...he basically talks about things you don't normally hear in a Common interview.

On a serious note...

the creator of the blog and my close friend Go has been MIA for quite awhile now and it is unlike him to be this inactive online. For those who are unaware, he is currently in Japan which recently got struck by an earthquake on July 16th, which happens to be Go's last known activity... I'm confident he is alrite and understandably without access to a computer, but of course there is no way in knowing for sure for all his close friends out here in the U.S.. So if anyone knows anything about Go's well-being, please please please take the time to register a Google account if you don't already have one and leave a comment on this post. We all hope ur alrite bro!

Thanks,

Sgt. Tibs

Graduation Cover?!

Pretty sure this is the official cover for Kanye West's Graduation now currently due out September 11th - the same date as 50 Cent's Curtis.

'Ye had this to say about the release date,
“I’d rather come out on a day like that, up against 50 — where people are excited about going to the stores and it’s an event and people talk about it — and be #2 on that day rather than come out and be #1 on a day nobody cares about."
“It’s about things going down in history. It’s not that much exciting stuff in hip-hop right now. I think people are going to make it more than what I’m making it myself. At the end of the day, I’m making music and I’m trying to sell.”
“I really believe I can take home that Album of the Year award at the Grammys. I’ve won my awards, but they’ve always been a category: ‘hip-hop,’ ‘rap.’ I wanna win Song of the Year, Album of the Year. I wanna deliver this album.”

And only one more week until we will be Finding Forever with Common! July 31st!

New Timbaland/Danja Prod. Tracks

I'm a big fan of Timbaland and Danja produced tracks - both working together and individually, especially with the countless amount of hits they have produced in the past year. Here are the 2 latest from Timbaland (off of 50 Cent's upcoming album Curtis and Mario's upcoming album Go!) and 1 of the 3 tracks produced by Danja from T.I.'s new cd T.I. vs. T.I.P. in stores now...

"AYO Technology" - 50 Cent f/ Justin Timberlake & Timbaland prod. Timbaland
"No Definition" - Mario prod. Timbaland
"Respect This Hustle" - T.I. prod. Danja

***Sorry for technical error if you may have tried DLing before. All 3 links work now and are able to download.

Chamillionaire - Mixtape Messiah Pt. 3

Head over to http://www.chamillionaire.com/ to download Chamillionaire's latest mixtape Mixtape Messiah Pt. 3.

Chamillionaire freestyles/raps over current hip-hop hits/beats such as 50 Cent's "I Get Money", Fabolous' "Make Me Better", T.I.'s "Big Shit Poppin' (Do It)", Common's "The People", Kanye West's "Can't Tell Me Nothing" and "Stronger"...and more. Excellent mixtape that further illustrates Chamillionaire's versatility and top notch flow and lyrics. Definitely a must-listen. Also check out the Mixtape Messiah Pt. 3 DVD.

Tibs' First Post

If ya'll know Sgt. Tibs, it shouldn't come as a surprise that my first post is none other than some new LUPE FIASCO! Here he is featured on Gemini's "We On" also featuring another FNF artist - Pooh Bear. My guess is it'll be on Gemini's solo debut Troubles of the World. Some sick flow on this track as Gemini and Lupe go back and forth. FNF Up!

never gets old....

nfected with murder, gangsters, homophobia and sexism, hip-hop has been a genre in serious trouble for the best part of a decade (though it did give rise to one of the finest Simpsons jokes, Marge to Bart: "I don't want you listening to those rappers, their music is insulting to their hoes").

Hey,,, Just Dont Laugh

Blue Scholars

Is public intellectualism dead? Combining the political urgency and militancy of Public Enemy (minus the extravagance and excessiveness) with the soul-inspired musicality and critical ethnocentrism of duos such as Pete Rock and C.L Smooth and Gangstarr, emcee Geologic and deejay/producer Sabzi of Blue Scholars merge art and activism in search for a new world of possibility on their self-titled LP, originally released in 2004.

Over the lush backdrops provided by Sabzi, truth-sayer and -seeker Geo lets us explore his world from the vantage point of a young Filipino American. In the mode of KRS-One's "edutainment" philosophies, Geo --through personal testimonies -- explores a range of social issues, particularly the destructiveness of U.S. racism and imperialism ("Blink"); gender politics ("Life and Death"); and growing up in the four elements (feel-good hip-hop anthem "Freewheelin'"). The Blue Scholars revive the spirits of the past; like Slick Rick, they give us new ways of thinking through the art of storytelling.
